Ben Shephard previously suffered a horrific injury that led to surgery – and now the This Morning host has insisted that parts of him are “falling off”.

TV presenter Ben has become one of the UK’s beloved presenters, thanks to shows like This Morning, GMB and Tipping Point  – which is on today (October 12).

However, in 2021, Ben suffered a health setback after he suffered a seriously painful leg injury – something that led to the star fearing he would never fully recover.

This Morning host Ben Shephard reveals painful injury

Ben ended up fracturing his leg in June 2021 while playing football and ruptured his ACL. He initially didn’t realise how serious it was and continued playing the game.

“We won the Cup Final, but I started with two legs and ended with one,” he explained at the time on GMB to co-host Susanna Reid.

Ben, who was forced to limp around with a leg brace, added: “Without realising, I have ruptured my ACL, I’ve torn the meniscus and I’ve fractured part of my leg as well.”

Ben’s ‘nasty’ accident

Ben’s GMB co-star Dr Hilary Jones then chimed in. Acknowledging the severity of the injury, he said: “That’s a nasty injury, that is a nasty injury.”

The TV star also added: “I didn’t realise I had done it quite so badly, I carried on playing for 25 minutes before I thought, it feels a little bit unstable, perhaps I should stop.”

Ben Shephard had surgery

That summer, Ben updated fans and told them that he that he was preparing from surgery – which was a success. He later underwent intensive physiotherapy.

However, a few years later, Ben sparked concern when he admitted that time is taking its toll on his body.

‘Bits are falling off’

“As I’m getting older and bits of me are falling off and falling apart badly, I realised that trying to preserve my joints and my shoulders and my back is really huge,” he said on the Gaby Roslin podcast recently.

He added: “Because your body’s been through so much physical trauma, learning to do something again [is a struggle].

“Even when I first had my knee op done, even learning to put full weight on it or to jump off a small step, it’s remarkable what the brain does.”

Tipping Point airs on Saturday (October 12) at 5:00pm on IV1.
